Limitations in Saving Videos for Offline in YouTube

YouTube, a charm of video lovers has sparked the face of its users when it announces its offline feature. With this feature, a user can save his favorite videos and watch them offline, i.e. without an internet connection. This was just a dream come true for the video lovers for whom 24hrs internet connectivity is not possible, like the travelers. They can now just save the videos when during active internet connection and can watch them afterward in offline mode.
However, as we all know that everything comes with a limitation, and same goes with this amazing offline feature of YouTube.

What is the limitation?

The first limitation is that this feature is available only in selected parts of the world. Here is the list of countries where Add to Offline feature is available:

  • Algeria
  • Egypt
  • Ghana
  • India
  • Indonesia
  • Jordan
  • Kenya
  • Libya
  • Malaysia
  • Nigeria
  • Pakistan
  • Philippines
  • South Africa
  • Thailand
  • Vietnam
  • Yemen

Another limitation is that all videos are not meant for offline viewing. You can find many videos where you will not find the option of saving. It means that you cannot save these videos for offline. You need to have an active data connection to continue watching such videos.

One more limitation is that the videos can only be played offline for up to 48 hours. After that, you will need to reconnect your device to a mobile or Wi-Fi network so that the app can check for any changes or availability of that video. If in case the video which you have saved is no longer available for offline playback, it will be automatically removed from your device during the next sync.

You need to be first signed in before going ahead with the offline feature. Videos that you have added for offline, can only be watched after you signed in with the same account.
Apart from these limitations, this is one of the greatest feature introduced by YouTube. There are many videos which you wish to watch again and again, resulting in unnecessary data usage. You can now save these videos and watch them any number of time, without worrying about your data charges.
