What is Net Neutrality?

 
The internet is a global computer network, consisting of interconnected networks using customary communication protocols. It provides assorted information and communicating facilities.
Every person has the freedom to access the Internet. It simply means that a person can comprehend the content, download it, communicate it with others, etc. It does not matter who owns these contents. Any website can be visited; any video can be buffered. There are nada restrictions. This is what we called as Net Neutrality.
This is the primary reason as to why that web has grown at such an exponential rate in such a short tenure. We enjoy the web. The public, in general, benefits with this information exchange.
Creativity and intense innovations of Wikipedia, Google and YouTube, just to name a few, have kicked it sky-high.

Dangerous Trend:

Just as your phone company cannot decide who you can call and what you can say, similarly, your Internet Service Provider cannot guide you in deciding the way you want to use the Internet.
In 2015, under Obama’s administration, millions of activists pressured the Federal Communications Commission to adopt Net Neutrality rules to keep the internet free and open. Everyone should be allowed to share and access information of one’s choice without any interference or policing.
In June 2016, a U.S. court upheld a ruling to prohibit broadband Internet providers from slowing or blocking Internet content delivery to consumers. The ruling also prohibited broadband providers to grant faster delivery to those who are ready to shell out more.
But in May 2017, the FCC voted to review previous rulings under the Trump’s administration.
Quality of Service policies are enabling ISPs to limit or completely block traffic from targeted applications. Here, the consumers already have a choice of using a slower dial-up internet service or pay a premium price for faster speed over broadband. They want to conserve their network resources for other more profitable purposes.
The restrictions on various website access, download rights, etc. would have negative effect on the freedom of the Internet. This will also impede creativity, growth and free exchange of information.
The Internet of Things, means there will be a lot more devices with IP addresses. It will generate more data that should be monitored, managed and optimized. The net neutrality debate will change the way the Internet functions.

Net neutrality is a must:

The concept of neutrality, accessibility and transfer of information is the basic right of every human being.
The Internet evolved with a principle of free and open network access to information. Live video is becoming very popular in sports but the cost of producing and maintaining them has increased ten folds.
Internet Service Providers should proactively see that there is no control on the access to network services.
Therefore, a government regulatory system must be formulated to control the balance between business opportunity and people’s interest.
