Prevent changes to hardware device settings (For Current User).

With this setting you can prevent changes to hardware device settings using the “Display” system icon in Control Panel.

Tweak for : Windows 98, Windows Me

Description:

You can prevent changes to hardware device settings using the “Display” system icon from the current applets list displayed in the Control Panel. This can be done by hiding the tab “Device Manager” from the “System Properties” dialog box.

Windows “Device Manager” tab enables you to see all hardware devices and get information about their state.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. If the subkey “\System” does not exist, create it as explained below. Then, create a DWORD value “NoDevMgrPage” in the right panel.

Now, right-click and modify its value to “1” to prevent changes to hardware device settings. However, if you want to enable the tab, change the value data to “0” or delete the added value.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

'Device Manager' tab is hidden from the 'System Properties' dialog box.

'Device Manager' is visible by default in the 'System Properties' dialog box

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Second, go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\] and create a new key as "System".

Create a new 'DWORD value' as "NoDevMgrPage".

Right Click on "NoDevMgrPage" and select 'Modify'.

Finally, set the value data as "1" and click 'OK'.
