Disable the Active Desktop from Display Properties dialog (For All Users).

This setting removes the options from Desktop, where you can make changes to the “Active Desktop” settings.

Tweak for : Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows 2000
The options of Active Desktop can be accessed from Display icon in Control Panel and right-click menu on Desktop.

This setting can remove options to configure “Active Desktop”. The “Web” tab, where the “Active Desktop” settings can be configured, is removed from the “Desktop Items” window. The “Desktop Items” window is called by clicking “Customize Desktop” button inside “Desktop” tab of “Control Panel > Display” system icon.

For this, go to “Start > Run” menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. If the subkey “\Explorer” does not exist, create it as explained below. Then, create a Dword value “NoActiveDesktop” in the right panel.

Now, right-click and modify its value to “1” which can prevent change to “Active Desktop” settings. However, if you want to get back the missing options, change the value to “0”.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

NOTE:
In Windows 2000, the “Web” tab can be accessed straight away inside “Display” system icon in Control Panel.

Disabe Active Desktop.reg

The '.reg' file can disable Active Desktop from Display Properties dialog.

Enabe Active Desktop (Default).reg

The '.reg' file can enable Active Desktop from Display Properties dialog.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

Option to add Web content on the desktop is removed.

Option to add Web content on the desktop is enabled by default.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\], key and create a new key with the name "Explorer" under "Policies".

Now, right-click in the open area to create a DWORD Value with the name "NoActiveDesktop" in "Explorer" key.

Next, right-click on "NoActiveDesktop" and click on 'Modify'.

Finally, enter the value User "1" in the text box and click on 'OK'.

Restrict toolbar manipulation on Taskbar (For All Users).

This setting can disable adding, removing or moving the toolbars on the Taskbar.

Do not save changed icon position on desktop (For All Users)

Category : Display > Desktop

Users can change the positions of icons and place them anywhere on the desktop. Windows saves such settings even when the user logs off or restarts the system. This setting can let you disable such feature.

Remove “Active Desktop” item from Settings in the Start menu (For Current User in Win 98/Me).

This setting enables you to remove the menu item “Active Desktop” from Settings in the Start menu.

Showing Windows Version on the Desktop.

Category : Display > Desktop

Enabling this option will show the Version information of Windows on the desktop and disabling the option will hide this information from desktop.

Set icon size for Start menu items.

This setting can help you to select an icon size for programs displayed on the Start menu.
