Prevent the disabling of the Active Desktop (Current User).

This setting enables you to disallow the ability to disable the Active Desktop.

Tweak for : Windows 2000
This setting enables you to disallow the ability to disable the Active Desktop.

If you go to any free place of your desktop, press the right mouse button and choose the option properties, the display properties will appear where you can disable the Active Desktop. If you enable this setting, you can’t disable the Active Desktop via the display properties.

For this go to "Start->Run" and enter "regedit" and search the key listed below. You can create one DWORD value "ForceActiveDesktopOn", if this value is not existing.

Now you can set this value to prevent the disabling of the Active Desktop. After a restart or logoff the changes take effect.

Prevent user to disable active desktop.reg

Allow user to disable active desktop (Default).reg

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

‘Active Desktop’ is disabled in the 'Context menu'.

‘Active Desktop’ is enabled by default in the 'Context menu'.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion Policies\Explorer\],right-click in the open area to create a DWORD Value with the name "ForceActiveDesktopOn" in "Explorer" key.

Next, right-click on "ForceActiveDesktopOn" and click on 'Modify'.

Finally, enter the value "1" (Base Hexadecimal) without quotation in the text box and click on 'OK'. Once you are done. After a restart or logoff, the changes take effect.

Set restrictions to change the desktop wallpaper.

This setting enables you to apply wallpaper restrictions for the desktop. You can either prevent changing wallpapers entirely or can only show Bitmap (.BMP) images as wallpaper on the desktop.

Restrict toolbar manipulation on Taskbar (For Current User).

This setting can disable adding, removing or moving the toolbars on the Taskbar.

Disable the Active Desktop from Display Properties dialog (For Current User).

This setting removes the options from Desktop, where you can make changes to the “Active Desktop” settings.

Do not save changed icon position on desktop (For All Users)

Users can change the positions of icons and place them anywhere on the desktop. Windows saves such settings even when the user logs off or restarts the system. This setting can let you disable such feature.
