Show protected operating system files.

This setting can let you to show the protected operating system files which are required to start and run Windows.

Tweak for : Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows 2000, Windows Vista
Some files that have the System and Hidden attributes are not viewable by default. These files are required to start and run Windows. Such files are not visible, even if the option to show hidden files and folders is enabled. To make these protected operating system files visible; you need to make changes to the registry.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. You can create a DWORD value, “ShowSuperHidden”, if it does not exist, at HKEY_CURRENT_USER and “DefaultValue” at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE registry paths.

Now, right-click and modify the value to “1”, which can show protected operating system files. However, if you want to get back to the original state, change this value to “0” or delete the dword values.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.


Show protected operating system files.reg

The '.reg' file will show protected operating system files.

Hide protected operating system files (Default).reg

The '.reg' file will hide protected operating system files.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

Protected operating system files can be viewed.

Protected operating system files can not be viewed by default.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type 'regedit'.

Second, go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder\SuperHidden\] and right click on the DWORD value 'DefaultValue' and select 'Modify'.

Third, set the value data as '1' and click 'OK'.

Fourth, go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\] and right click on the DWORD value 'ShowSuperHidden' and select 'Modify'.

Finally set the value data as '1' to show protected operating system files and click 'OK'.

Turn off the “Publish to Web” task for files and folders.

This setting can turn off the facility to publish files and folders on Web.

Set icon size for Start menu items.

Category : Display > Desktop

This setting can help you to select an icon size for programs displayed on the Start menu.

Disable the Active Desktop from Display Properties dialog (For Current User).

Category : Display > Desktop

This setting removes the options from Desktop, where you can make changes to the “Active Desktop” settings.

Set restrictions to change the desktop wallpaper.

Category : Display > Desktop

This setting enables you to apply wallpaper restrictions for the desktop. You can either prevent changing wallpapers entirely or can only show Bitmap (.BMP) images as wallpaper on the desktop.

Restrict toolbar manipulation on Taskbar (For Current User).

Category : Display > Desktop

This setting can disable adding, removing or moving the toolbars on the Taskbar.
