Change Default 'Windows Disk Defragmenter' to other defragmenter service

By using this tweak you can change the default utility "Windows Disk Defragmenter" to some other defragmenter utility of your choice.

Tweak for : Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows 2000, Windows Vista

Description:

When you right-click a drive inside the Explorer, select "Properties" and switch to the "Tools" tab, Windows will display several commands you can execute on the current drive, Defragment Now is one of them. By using this tweak you can change the default utility "Windows Disk Defragmenter" to some other defragmenter utility of your choice.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. Search for REG_EXPAND_SZ (Expandable String Value) value “Default”.

Now, right-click and set the data value with the path of your defragment utility.

Log off or restart your system for the change to take effect.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

The default 'Windows Disk Defragmenter' is replaced to other defragmenter service.

The default 'Windows Disk Defragmenter' is not replaced to other defragmenter service.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Second, go to the [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\DefragPath\] key, right-click on the "Default" Expandable String value and click on "Modify".

Finally, enter the path of the Defragment Utility in the text box and click on 'OK'.
