Control Simple Folder View in Left Side of Windows Explorer

This setting lets you control the display of simple folder view in Explorer's folders.

Tweak for : Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows Vista
The selected folder is clicked to expand in the left-hand folder list of Windows Explorer by default. This allows the folder to show its sub-folders, if they exist. Another click on the folder lets it close the expanded folders. The folders are connected to the drives through dotted lines. These lines get disappeared. This tweak permits you to control this function.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. . If the subkeys, “\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced” are not present, create them as explained below. You can create a DWORD value “FriendlyTree”, if this value does not exist. Now, right-click and modify the value to “0” to disable the simple folder view and “1” to enable the view.

Click “OK” and close the registry editor.
Restart the system or logoff to see the changes taking effect.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type 'regedit'.

Go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer \Advanced\],right-click in the open area to create a DWORD Value with the name "FriendlyTree" in "Advanced" key.

Next, right-click on "FriendlyTree" and click on 'Modify'.

Finally, enter the value "1" (Base Hexadecimal) without quotation in he text box and click on 'OK'. Once you are done. After a restart or logoff, the changes take effect.
