Changing Drive Labels in Explorer

This tweak is use for change the label used for specific drives in Explorer.

Tweak for : Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows 2000, Windows Vista

Description:

This tweak allows you to change the label shown in Explorer for a specific drive letter.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter "regedit" and navigate to the registry path listed below. If any of the sub keys [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\] is not present, create it as listed below. Within "DriveIcons", create another key with the drive letter you want to change (for example: "…\DriveIcons\C"). After that create another key within the drive letter key called "DefaultLabel".

Now, right-click on default value and set value to the label you want to appear for that drive letter (for example: My ZIP Drive).

Restart your system for the change to take effect.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

New name is visible for a specific drive in Explorer.

Default name is visible for a specific drive in Explorer.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\], key and create a new key with the name "DriveIcons" under "Explorer".

Then, create a "C" key under "DriveIcons".

Then, create a "DefaultLabel" key under "K".

Next, right-click on "(Default)" and click on 'Modify'.

Finally, enter the value "User Defined Name"without quotation in the text box and click on 'OK'.Once you are done. Exit from registry. After a restart or logoff, the changes take effect.
