Clear the containing text history from Search window.

If you go Start > Search and choose search for word or phrase in a file or filename, Windows will save the text arguments passed in the registry. If you go through this setting, you can delete the history of the text searches.

Tweak for : Windows XP, Windows 2003

Description:

If you go Start > Search and choose search for word or phrase in a file or filename, Windows will save the text arguments passed. With this search option you can search also inside files, so the search could take longer as normal search for filenames. If you go through this setting, you can delete the history of the text searches.

For this go to Start > Run and enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. Delete all numeric entries like 000, 001, 002 etc., in the right panel.

The changes will take effect after a restart or logoff.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

Text history in the Search window is deleted.

Test history is visible in the Search window.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Search Assistant\ACMru\5604\], in the open area right-click on "ID" (where ID=000 to N integer value) and click on 'Delete'.
