Disallow the changes inside File Types in Windows Explorer to currently logged on user.

If you go to "Tools->Folder" Options in the Explorer and choose the tab "File Types", you can specify the default application for a particular file type. You can disable this feature.

Tweak for : Windows Me, Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows 2000, Windows Vista
If you go to "Tools->Folder Options" in the Explorer and choose the tab "File Types", you can specify the default application for a particular file type. In the tab File Types of the Folder Options dialog you can also add or delete the file types, but if you enable this setting, you can't make any modifications to the File Types. By using this tweak you can disable this feature for the current user.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter "regedit" and navigate to the registry path listed below. You can create a DWORD value "NoFileAssociate", if this value does not exist.

Now, right-click and modify the value to "1" to disable any modifications of the file types inside the Explorer. However, if you want to get back to the original state, change the value to "0".

After a restart or log off the changes take effect.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

The "New", "Delete", "Change" and "Advanced" buttons to change the file types are disbled.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Second, go to the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\] key, right-click on the blank area in the right pane and click on "Mew > DWORD Value" to create a new DWORD value with the name "NoFileAssociate".

Third, right-click on the "NoFileAssociate" DWORD value and click on "Modify".

Finally, enter the value "1" in the text box and click on 'OK'.

Disallow the changes inside File Types in Windows Explorer to all users.

Hide the Hand holding the Shared Folders.

A shared folder appears in Windows Explorer as an icon of a hand holding the shared folder. You can hide the hand of this icon.

Disable caching of thumbnail views.

If you view Thumbnail pictures in the Explorer, Windows will save the view of all visited folders in a cache. You can disable the caching of Thumbnail pictures.
