Restricting access to “Properties” of My Computer or “System” in Control Panel (For Current User).

This setting can hide “Properties” of My Computer folder and restricts access to “System Properties” dialog box of System in Control Panel.

Tweak for : Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows 2000, Windows Vista

Description:

When you go to My Computer folder, press the right mouse button and choose “Properties” or when you go to Start > Setting > Control Panel and perform a double-click on System, the “System Properties” dialog box will appear. Likewise, selecting My Computer “Properties” in Windows Explorer or “Alt + Enter” key combination with My Computer selected, also calls the same dialog box.

If this setting is enabled, you can prevent the user having access to the “System Properties” dialog box, using any of the above channels.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. You can create a DWORD value “NoPropertiesMyComputer”, if this value does not exist.

Now, right-click and modify the value to “1” which can hide the properties dialog box. However, if you want to show the dialog box back, change the value to “0” or delete the value.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

The "Properties" option in the context menu of "My Computer" is not visible as well as the "System" icon in Control Panel is not functional.

The "Properties" option in the context menu of "My Computer" is visible as well as the "System" icon in Control Panel is functional as usual.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Second, go to the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\] key, right-click in the open area to create a new DWORD value with the name "NoPropertiesMyComputer".

Third, right-click on the "NoPropertiesMyComputer" DWORD value and click on 'Modify'.

Finally, enter the value "1" in the text box and click on 'OK'.
