Show hidden files and folders.

This setting enables you to show hidden files and folders in the Windows Explorer.

Tweak for : Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows 2000, Windows Vista
This setting enables you to show hidden files and folders in the Windows Explorer.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. Now, right-click and modify the DWORD value “Hidden” in the right panel to “1” which can show hidden files and folders. However, if you want to get back to the original state, change the value to “0”.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

The ".reg" file can show the hidden files and folders.

Hide hidden files and folders (Default).reg

The ".reg" file can hide the hidden files and folders.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

Hidden Folders and Files of Explorer are visible.

Folders and Files of the Explorer are not visible by default.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Second, go to the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\] key, right-click on the "Hidden" DWORD value and click on "Modify".

Finally, enter the value "1" in the text box and click on 'OK'.

Clear the search arguments from Find dialog box.

This setting allows you to clear the drop-down list created while trying to find a file or all files of a format.

Disallow the changes inside File Types in Windows Explorer to currently logged on user.

If you go to "Tools->Folder" Options in the Explorer and choose the tab "File Types", you can specify the default application for a particular file type. You can disable this feature.

Disable caching of thumbnail views.

Category : Display > Files & Folders

If you view Thumbnail pictures in the Explorer, Windows will save the view of all visited folders in a cache. You can disable the caching of Thumbnail pictures.

Hide the Hand holding the Shared Folders.

Category : Display > Files & Folders

A shared folder appears in Windows Explorer as an icon of a hand holding the shared folder. You can hide the hand of this icon.

Show the extension for the Windows Explorer Command (.SCF) files.

Category : Display > Files & Folders

This setting enables you to show the “.SCF” files extension. If you have a file for example “Work”, you can show the extension that it looks like “Work.scf”.
