Hide all desktop items (For Current User).

This setting enables you to hide all icons on desktop including shortcuts and user-defined icons.

Tweak for : Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows 2000, Windows Vista

Description:

This setting can hide default icons, shortcuts and user-defined icons from the desktop. The icon-set includes standard icons like My Documents, My Computer, Internet Explorer, etc. Removing icons and shortcuts does not prevent the user from using another method to start the programs or opening the items they represent.

The functionality of Show Desktop icon on the Quick Launch bar as well as the right-click menu of the desktop, through which one can explore various desktop features are also disabled.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. You can create a DWORD value “NoDesktop”, if this value does not exist.

Now, right-click and modify the value data to “1” which can hide all icons on the desktop.

However, if you want to show the icons back, change the value to “0”.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

All icons are hidden from the Desktop.

All the icons are visible on the Desktop by default.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion Policies\Explorer\],right-click in the open area to create a DWORD Value with the name "NoDesktop" in "Explorer" key.

Next, right-click on "NoDesktop" and click on 'Modify'.

Finally, enter the value "1" in the text box and click on 'OK'.
