Prevent display of “Internet Explorer” icon on desktop (For All Users).

You have a choice to display the desired standard icons on the Desktop. Through this setting you can hide the “Internet Explorer” icon from Desktop.

Tweak for : Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows Vista
The thought of clutter-free desktop since Windows XP, present Recycle Bin as the only icon on the desktop. You have a choice to display the desired standard icons on the Desktop.

To allow using the icons available with old systems, Windows provides new Start menu, which shows some of the common icons in its 2-panel display. However, if you switch to Classic Start menu style, all the old icons are displayed by default.

Through this setting you can hide the “Internet Explorer” icon, if displayed on your desktop.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. Now, right-click and modify the Dword value “{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}” on HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE registry paths. Update their value data with “1” to hide “Internet Explorer” icon on desktop.

However, if you show the icon again, change the value data to “0” or delete the value.

Refresh view of your computer for the changes to take effect.

NOTE:
The restrictions will apply only when you use new Start menu display.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

'Internet Explorer' icon is hidden from the 'Desktop'.

'Internet Explorer' icon is visible on the 'Desktop' by default.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Second, go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel\] right-click on the DWORD value "{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}" and click on 'Modify'.

Finally, set the 'Value Data' to "1" in the textbox provided and click on 'OK'.

Hide “My Network Places” icon from Desktop and Windows Explorer.
