Prevent display of “My Computer” icon on desktop (For Current User).

You have a choice to display the desired standard icons on the Desktop. Through this setting you can hide the “My Computer” icon on the Desktop.

Description:

The thought of clutter-free desktop since Windows XP, present Recycle Bin as the only icon on the desktop. You have a choice to display the desired standard icons on the Desktop.

To allow using the icons available with old systems, Windows provides new Start menu, which shows some of the common icons in its 2-panel display. However, if you switch to Classic Start menu style, all the old icons are displayed by default.

Through this setting you can hide the “My Computer” icon, if displayed on your desktop.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. Now, right-click and modify the Dword value “{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}”, in the right panel, to “1” which can hide “My Computer” icon on desktop. However, if you show the icon again, change the value data to “0” or delete the value.

Refresh view of your computer for the changes to take effect.

NOTE:
The restrictions will apply only when you use new Start menu display.

'My Computer' icon is hidden from the 'Desktop'.

'My Computer' icon is visible on the 'Desktop'.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Second, go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel\] and right-click on the DWORD value "{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}" and select 'Modify'.

Finally, set the 'Value Data' to "1" in the textbox provided and click on 'OK'.
