Remove all icons from Desktop (For All Users).

If you enable this setting, you can remove all shortcuts, files and applications from the desktop. In addition, it also disables the right-click menu on Desktop.

Description:

This setting can hide default icons, shortcuts and user-defined icons from the desktop. The icon-set includes standard icons like My Documents, My Computer, Internet Explorer, etc. Removing icons and shortcuts does not prevent the user from using another method to start the programs or opening the items they represent.

The functionality of Show Desktop icon on the Quick Launch bar as well as the right-click menu of the desktop, through which one can explore various desktop features are also disabled.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. If the subkey “\Explorer” does not exist, create it as explained below. Then, create a DWORD value “NoDesktop” in the right panel.

Now, right-click and modify its value to “1” which can remove all icons from the desktop. However, if you want to get back to the original state, change the value to “0”.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

All the Icons are removed from the Desktop.

All the Icons are visible on the Desktop by default.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Second, go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\] and create a new key as 'Explorer'.

Third create a new DWORD value as 'NoDesktop' under the key 'Explorer'.

Right Click on the DWORD vlaue 'NoDesktop' and select 'Modify'.

Finally, set the value data as "1" and click 'OK'.
