Show generic icons for “.ICO” files.

Windows show normally “.ICO” files with the special icons i.e. icons inside each file, but you can specify that Windows should use generic icons.

Tweak for : Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows 2000, Windows Vista
Windows show normally “.ICO” files with the special icons i.e. icons inside each file, but you can specify that Windows should use generic icons.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. Now, right-click and delete the data of “Default” String value which can show generic icons for “.ICO” files.

However, if you want to revert to default icons look, change the value data to “%1”.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

Display default unknown icon for ICO files.reg

The ".reg" file will show generic icons of ".ICO" files.

Display special icon for ICO files (Default).reg

The ".reg" file will show special icons of ".ICO" files.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

Generic icons are displayed for ".ICO" files.

Default icons are displayed for ".ICO" files.

First, click the Start button, and select Run. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit"

Go to [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\icofile\DefaultIcon] and right-click on "Default " and select 'Delete'.

Show special icons for “.VBX” files.
