Delete the list of recently used documents on logoff (for all users)

This setting enables you to remove the list of recently used items on the start menu during the logoff process.

Tweak for : Windows Me, Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows 2000, Windows Vista
Windows stores the list of most recently used files and URLs that you have accessed recently. If you enable this setting, you can delete the list of recently used documents on the start menu during the logoff process.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. You can create a DWORD value “ClearRecentDocsOnExit”, if this value does not exist.

Now, right-click and modify the value to “1” which can delete the list of recently used documents on the start menu during the logoff process. However, if you want to get back to the original state, change the value to “0”.

NOTE:
In Windows Vista, the Recent Items folder is removed from Start Menu on applying the tweak.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

The list of recently opened items is cleared from the "My Recent Documents" after the changes have been made in the registry.

The list of recently opened items is visible.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\], key and create a new key with the name "Explorer" under "Policies".

Go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policie s\Explorer],right-click in the open area to create a DWORD Value with the name "ClearRecentDocsOnExit" in "Explorer" key.

Next, right-click on "ClearRecentDocsOnExit" and click on 'Modify'.

Finally, enter the value "1" (Base Hexadecimal) without quotation in the text box and click on 'OK'. Once you are done. After a restart or logoff, the changes take effect.

Hide My Documents from the Start menu (Current User)

This tweak is used to hide My Documents folder from the Start menu.

Change default location of the “Start Menu” folder.

With this setting, you can change the default location/path of the "Start Menu" folder. Upon changing the path, all subsequent data will be saved at the new location by default.

With this setting, you can change the default location/path of the "Programs" folder. Upon changing the path, all subsequent data will be saved at the new location by default.

Enable maximum number of shortcuts in recent documents option of start menu (for all users)

This setting enables you the facility of making maximum number of shortcuts (default value is 15) in Recent Documents in Start menu.

Cascading “My Documents” items in the new Start menu.

This setting enables you to control the display of “My Documents” either as cascaded menu or as a folder link in the new Start menu.
