Disable the shortcut of “Microsoft Excel” application in new Start menu (For All Users).

The Most Frequent List in new Start menu displays the application names that are regularly used. This setting can disable the shortcut of the application “Microsoft Excel” from appearing in the list.

Tweak for : Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows Vista
Windows displays the most frequently accessed programs, in left panel of the new Start menu called Most Frequent List. This list makes the program accessibility comfortable for users. But, with this setting you can disable the shortcut of the application “Microsoft Excel” in Most Frequent List of Start menu.

“Excel.exe” is the executable program of “Microsoft Excel”. It is a spreadsheet program, which permits you easy presentation of all kinds of reports including charts.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. Now, create a string value “NoStartPage”, if this value does not exists, and leave the data blank. This removes the shortcut to the application.

However, if you want to get the application shortcut back in Start menu, delete the string value “NoStartPage”.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

Don't show Excel in Most Frequent List.reg

The ".reg" file can hide "Microsoft Excel" from the Most Frequent List in the Start menu.

Show Excel in Most Frequent List (Default).reg

The ".reg" file can show "Microsoft Excel" in the Most Frequent List in the Start menu.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

The "Microsoft Excel" option is not visible in the 'Most Frequent List' in the 'Start' menu after the changes have been made in the registry.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Second, go to the [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\Applications\excel.exe\] key, right-click on the blank area in the right pane and click on "New > String Value" to create a new String value with the name "NoStartPage".

The created String value will look like below.

Cascading “My Documents” items inside the Start menu (All Users).
