Disable the shortcut of “Windows Backup” utility in new Start menu (For Current User).

The Most Frequent List in new Start menu displays the application names that are regularly used. This setting can disable the shortcut of the utility “Windows Backup” from appearing in the list.

Tweak for : Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows Vista

Description:

Windows displays the most frequently accessed programs, in left panel of the new Start menu called Most Frequent List. This list makes the program accessibility comfortable for users. But, with this setting you can disable the shortcut of the utility “Windows Backup” in Most Frequent List of Start menu.

Microsoft Windows includes its own backup program. The “Windows Backup” is a handy utility and depending on your preferences, you can choose a list of folders and files that are to be backed up, and that are to be excluded from the backup job. To perform regular backups create an automatic backup schedule.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. If any of the subkeys “Applications\ntbackup.exe” is not present, create it as explained below. Then, create a string value “NoStartPage”, if this value does not exists, and leave the data blank. This removes the shortcut to the utility.

However, if you want to get the utility shortcut back in Start menu, delete the subkey “ntbackup.exe”.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

NOTE:
The Windows XP Home Edition users can use backup utility only if the feature is already installed. If not, find and execute to the file “Ntbackup.msi” in Windows XP CD to install this feature.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Second, go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\] and create a new key "Applications".

Third, create a sub key as "Ntbackup.exe" under "Applications".

Fourth, create a String value as "NoStartPage".

Keep the value data blank to disable “Windows Backup” link to appear in the 'Start Menu'.
