Hide “Run” item from the Start menu (For Current User).

This setting removes the ability to launch commands or processes from the Start menu by removing the "Run" option.

Tweak for : Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows 2000, Windows Vista
The "Run" command on the Start menu lets you execute the programs, opens a document, folder and website but this setting disables the command functions. This setting disables Winkey + R combination in addition to above operations. It also removes the corresponding checkbox from the Start menu properties dialog box.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. You can create a DWORD value “NoRun”, in the right panel, if this value does not exist.

Now, right-click and modify its value to “1” which can hide “Run” item from the Start menu. However, if you want to show the item back, change the value data to “0” or delete the added value.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

'Run' option in the Start menu is hidden.

'Run' option in the Start menu is visible by default.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion Policies\Explorer\], right-click in the open area to create a DWORD Value with the name "NoRun" in "Explorer" key.

Next, right-click on "NoRun" and click on 'Modify'.

Finally, enter the value "1" in the text box and click on 'OK'.
