Hide user-created folders in the Start menu.

This setting enables you to hide user-created folders in the Start menu.

Tweak for : Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows 2000, Windows Vista
Users may have some folders which are regularly used by them. To have faster accessibility to these folders, users may add them to the Start menu. With this setting you can hide the user-created folder form the Start menu list.

For this, go to Start > Run, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. You can create a DWORD value “NoStartMenuSubFolders”, if this value does not exist.

Now, right-click and modify the value to “1” which can hide the user-created folder. However, if you want to show the option back, change the value data to “0” or delete the value.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

User created folders are hidden from the Start menu.

User created folders are visible in the Start menu by default.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\], right-click in the open area to create a DWORD Value with the name "NoStartMenuSubFolders" in "Explorer" key.

Next, right-click on "NoStartMenuSubFolders" and click on 'Modify'.

Finally, enter the value "1" in the text box and click on 'OK'.

Remove “My Recent Documents” item from the Start menu.

Remove “Set Program Access and Defaults” item from the Start menu.
