Remove “Search” item from the Start menu (For Current User).

This setting enables you to hide the “Search” item in the Start menu.

Tweak for : Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows Vista

Description:

“Search” option lets you to look for stored documents and files & folders, computers on the network, people in address book, websites and permits to work through them. This setting enables you to remove the item from the Start menu.

For this, go to Start > Run, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. You can create a DWORD value “NoFind”, if this value does not exist.

Now, right-click and modify the value to “1” which can remove turn off item from the Start menu. However, if you want to remove the option, change the value to “0” or delete the value “NoFind”.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

'Search' option is hidden from the Start menu.

'Search' option is visible by default in the Start menu.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\] Now, right-click in the open area to create a DWORD Value with the name "NoFind" in "Explorer" key.

Next, right-click on "NoFind" and click on 'Modify'.

Finally, enter the value "1" in the text box and click on 'OK'.
