Disable balloon tips in Windows.

This setting allows you to disable balloon tips that pops-up in the notification area.

Tweak for : Windows XP, Windows 2003

Description:

Balloon tips are pop-up notification of some events. Typically they appear in the notification area (earlier called as system tray) when new hardware or software is installed or free disk space dries-down or when you receive run-time notifications. These can come up automatically and can be closed down by clicking on 'X' in top right corner. However, if you are annoyed of regular pop-up displays you can disable them through this simple registry change.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. You can create a dword value “EnableBalloonTips” in the right panel, if this value does not exist.

Now, right-click and modify its value to “0” which can disable balloon tips. However, if you want enable the display back, change the value data to “2” or delete the added value.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

No Balloon tips is visible in notification area.

Balloon tips is displayed in notification area for Windows Messenger.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion Explorer\Advanced\], right-click in the open area to create a DWORD Value with the name "EnableBalloonTips" in "Advanced" key.

Next, right-click on "EnableBalloonTips" and click on 'Modify'.

Finally, enter the value "0" in the text box and click on 'OK'.
