Disable searching a file or folder inside subfolders.

You can limit the search of files and folders only to the primary directory, and exclude subfolders.

Tweak for : Windows XP, Windows 2003

Description:

This setting enables you to modify the search options used for files and folders. With this setting, you can limit the search of files and folders only to the primary directory. The subfolders of this directory are excluded from the search initiated.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. You can create a DWORD value “IncludeSubFolders”, if this value does not exist.

Now, right-click and modify the value to “1” which can exclude subfolders in search. However, if you want to include the option back, change the value to “0”.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

‘Search Subfolders’ option is disabled while searching for files/folders.

‘Search Subfolders’ option is enabled by default.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\] ,right-click on "IncludeSubFolders" and click on 'Modify'.

Finally, enter the value User "0" in the text box and click on 'OK'.
