Edit tool tip of Windows Explorer Commands (.SCF).

This setting enables you to edit tool tip of Windows Explorer Commands i.e. “.SCF” file.

Windows displays information text if the mouse is hovered on a file or folder. This text is the information about the file which is called tool tip. “.SCF” is extension of Windows Explorer Commands. These command used by Windows Explorer; for example, to move up or down a directory or show the Desktop; run via Internet Explorer etc. This setting lets you modify the text of its tool tip.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. You can create a String value “InfoTip”, if this value does not exist.

Now, right-click and modify the value to with the info tip you would like to show with the file when mouse is hovered over it.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

The tool tip has been edited for the .SCF file type.

No tool tip is shown for the .SCF file type by default.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\SHCmdFile\], in the open area right-click on "InfoTip" and click on 'Modify'.

Finally, enter the desired info tip in the text box and click on 'OK'.

Add or remove options from “Send To” context menu item.
