Windows assigns simple beep sound to some system events. The beep sound is generated from the PC speakers and not using the sound card or external speakers. Examples to such system events could be a computer program having problems performing a task, or trying to write a file on a removable drive without the drive being inserted, etc.

To prevent your system to issue beep sound on operating system events you can make changes to the registry.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. Now, right-click and modify the string value “Beep”, in the right panel, to “no” which can turn off the sound. However, if you want to enable the feature back, change the value data to “yes”.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.
