Prevent Windows Messenger integration in Microsoft Outlook

If you open Microsoft Outlook (XP), the Windows Messenger will start by default. By using this tweak you are able to prevent the start of Windows Messenger.

Tweak for : Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows Vista

Description:

If you open Microsoft Outlook (XP), the Windows Messenger will start by default. By using this tweak you are able to prevent the start of Windows Messenger.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. If any of the subkeys “\Office\10.0\Outlook\InstantMessaging\” are not present, create them as explained below. Then, create a Dword value “ForceDisableIM” in the right panel.

Now, right-click and modify its value to “1” to prevent Windows Messenger from starting when you open Microsoft Outlook. However, if you want to show the original options back, change the value data to “0” or delete the added value.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

‘Microsoft Outlook Messenger’ is being prevented to start automatically.

‘Microsoft Outlook Messenger’ is enabled to start automatically by default.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\] , key and create a new key with the name "Office" under "Microsoft".

Then, create a "10.0" key under "Office".

Then, create a "Outlook" key under "10.0".

Then, create a "InstantMessaging" key under "Outlook".

Now, right-click in the open area to create a DWORD Value with the name "ForceDisableIM" in "InstantMessaging" key.

Next, right-click on "ForceDisableIM" and click on 'Modify'.

Finally, enter the value "1" in the text box and click on 'OK'.
