Disable registry editors.

With this setting you can restrict a user from using the registry editors like regedit.exe or regedt32.exe. This can be useful if you are working on a network based environment and want to withhold users on workstations from editing the registry.

Tweak for : Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows 2000, Windows Vista

Description:

This restriction disables the ability to run the standard Microsoft registry editing tools such as REGEDIT and REGEDT32, therefore the registry editing is out of the users reach. This can be useful if you are administrator of a network based environment and want to withhold users on workstations from editing the registry.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. You can create a DWORD value “DisableRegistryTools” in the right panel, if this value does not exist. Now, right-click and modify its value to “1” which can disable registry editors.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

Important:
Please make a note that once you edit the registry with this setting you will not be able to use regedit.exe or regedt32.exe to undo the changes done.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Second, go to the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System\] key, right-click on the blank area in the right pane and click on "New > DWORD Value" to create a new DWORD value with the name "DisableRegistryTools".

Third, right-click on the 'DisableRegistryTools' DWORD value and click on "Modify".

Finally, enter the value "1" in the text box and click on 'OK'.
