Change the name of “Windows Update” option in Internet Explorer's “Tools” menu.

This setting lets you change the text of “Windows Update” option on the Internet Explorer “Tools” menu to a customized string.

The Internet Explorer “Windows Update” option in “Tools” menu opens the Windows update page on Microsoft’s website. Through this setting, you can add a custom text in place of “Windows Update”, though the custom text will still open Microsoft’s website.

For this, go to Start > Run, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. You can create the key “Internet Explorer” and its associated string value “Windows Update Menu Text”, if they do not exist. Now, add the custom text.

Restart Internet Explorer for the changes to take effect.

Modify IE Win_Update menu.reg

The ".reg" file can let you change the text of “Windows Update” option on the Internet Explorer “Tools” menu to a customized string.

Restore IE Win_Update menu (Default).reg

The ".reg" file can restore the name of the item to "Windows Update".

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

Customized name in place of "Windows Update" is added.

The default "Windows Update" name is shown.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Second, go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\] key and create a new key with the name "Internet Explorer" under "Microsoft".

Third, right-click in the open area to create a String Value with the name "Windows Update Menu Text" in "Internet Explorer" key.

Fourth, right-click on "Windows Update Menu Text" and click on 'Modify'.

Finally, type the custom text in the text box provided and click on 'OK'.

Change the Internet Explorer source editor.
