Disable the “Mail and News” item in “Tools” menu of Internet Explorer.

The option to access your default e-mail program is incorporated in Internet Explorer. The “Mail and News” item in the “Tools” menu of Internet Explorer will launch the default e-mail program. With this setting, you can disable access to this item.

Description:

Internet Explorer has the built-in functionality to access your emails directly from the browser. If you have configured any e-mail client like Outlook/Outlook Express or access your mails through a web based e-mail program like Hotmail, you can launch the program to read/write e-mails when you are in Internet Explorer. In Internet Explorer, in the “Tools” menu, there is the item “Mail and News”, which will launch your e-mail program.

This registry setting can turn off the feature to access e-mail from Internet Explorer by disabling the “Mail and News” item.

Important:
Even if you enable the function to access e-mails, all the open Internet Explorer windows will not show the effect.

For this, go to Start > Run, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. You can create a DWORD value “RestGoMenu” at HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE registry paths, if this value does not exist.

Now, right-click and modify the value to “1” which can disable the “Mail and News” item from Internet Explorer. However, if you want to get back to the original state, change the value to “0”.

Restart Internet Explorer for the changes to take effect.

This feature works on Internet Explorer version 5 and above.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

The "Mail and News" option is disabled in Internet Explorer.

The "Mail and News" option is enabled in Internet Explorer.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\] key and create a new key with the name "Internet Explorer" under "Microsoft".

Then, create a "Restrictions" key under "Internet Explorer".

Now, right-click in the open area to create a DWORD Value with the name "RestGoMenu" in "Restrictions" key.

The created DWORD value will look like below.

Next, right-click on the "RestGoMenu" DWORD value and click on 'Modify'.

Finally, enter the value "1" in the text-box provided and click on 'OK'. Once you are done, follow the above steps to create similar registry keys and DWORD value at [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\].
