Disable the ability to change toolbar selection status in Internet Explorer (For Current User).

This setting can turn off the function to activate/deactivate toolbars in Internet Explorer. It prevents users from messing with toolbars by changing their selections regularly in Internet Explorer.

Description:

In Internet Explorers' “View” menu, there’s an item “Toolbars” which lists different toolbars associated with the browser. These toolbars can be activated/deactivated by applying/removing the tick marks on the menu item.

This setting disables the ability to select any bar in the “Toolbars” sub-menu. That is, it prevents you from changing the tick marks that cause the Standard Buttons, Address Bar and Links on your browser to either show or hide. For example, you can not make the Address Bar disappear or reappear. However, it does not prevent you from adding or deleting buttons from the currently displayed toolbars on the browser. Further, this setting doesn’t apply on any other menu item of the “Toolbars” sub-menu, except the above named toolbars.

This setting is useful in a kiosk, library, or public outlets where you don't want users to change toolbars selection in Internet Explorer.

For this go to Start > Run, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. If any of the subkeys “Internet Explorer\Toolbars\Restrictions” is not present, create it as explained below. Then, create a DWORD value “NoToolbarOptions”, if this value does not exist.

Now, right-click and modify the value to “1” which can avoid changing of toolbars selection in Internet Explorer. However, if you want to go back to the original state, change the value to “0”.

The changes will take effect after a restart or logoff.

This setting can be applied to Windows Explorer as well.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

The user is not allowed to change toolbar selction from "View > Toolbars" sub-menu in Internet Explorer.

The user is allowed to change selection in "View > Toolbars" sub-menu.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\], and right-click to create a subkey "Internet Explorer" under "Microsoft".

Create another key "Toolbars" under "Internet Explorer".

In the hierarchy create "Restrictions" subkey.

Then, right-click in the open area to create a DWORD value with the name "NoToolbarOptions".

After creating "NoToolbarOptions" DWORD value, right-click on it and click on 'Modify'.

Finally, enter the value "1" in the text-box and click on 'OK'.
