Disable the new window option in “File” menu of Internet Explorer.

You can control some features and behaviors of Internet Explorer. One of them is to disable the new window option in Internet Explorer.

Tweak for : Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows Vista
You can disable the option to launch a new window in Internet Explorer. Normally, if you want to open a new window in Internet Explorer, you could either select File > New option or press the key combination Ctrl + N. However, this setting will disable the New window option in File menu of Internet Explorer.

Important:
Even if you enable the New window option in Internet Explorer, all the open Internet Explorer windows will not show the effect.

For this, go to Start > Run, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. You can create a DWORD value “NoOpeninNewWnd” at HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE registry paths, if this value does not exist.

Now, right-click and modify the value to “1” which can disable the new window option in Internet Explorer. However, if you want to get back to the original state, change the value to “0”.

Restart Internet Explorer for the changes to take effect.

NOTE:
This feature works on Internet Explorer version 5 and above.

The ".reg" file can disable the File > New > Window option in Internet Explorer.

The ".reg" file can enable the File > New > Window option in Internet Explorer.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

The File > New > Window option is disabled in Internet Explorer.

The File > New > Window option is enabled in Internet Explorer.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\] key and create a new key with the name "Internet Explorer" under "Microsoft".

Then, create a "Restrictions" key under "Internet Explorer".

Now, right-click in the open area to create a DWORD Value with the name "NoOpeninNewWnd" in "Restrictions" key.

The created DWORD value will look like below.

Next, right-click on the "NoOpeninNewWnd" DWORD value and click on 'Modify'.

Finally, enter the value "1" in the text-box provided and click on 'OK'. Once you are done, follow the above steps to create similar registry keys and DWORD value at [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\].

Turn off “Open” dialog in Internet Explorer.
