Hide “Links” folder from Internet Explorer.

Internet Explorer persistently creates a Links folder on the Favorites menu, this tweak allows you to remove it.

Tweak for : Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows 2000, Windows Vista

Description:

There are two methods that can be used to hide the “Links” folder. One of them is using the registry and the other using file attributes. Both methods are detailed below.

Using the Registry

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. Now, right-click the String value “LinksFolderName”, in the right panel, and delete the value data. Then, open Internet Explorer and delete the “Links” folder from the “Favorites” menu, this stops it being automatically recreated.

The next time you start Internet Explorer the “Links” folder is not displayed either in the “Favorites” menu or in the toolbar.

Using File Attributes

Using Explorer find the location of your “Favorites” folder (e.g. C:\Documents and Settings\\Favorites) within that folder will be a sub-folder named “Links”.
Right-click the “Links” folder and select Properties, here, check the Hidden checkbox and click OK.

From now on the Links folder should be hidden from the Favorites list. This works for any other folder or link on the favorites menu as well.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

NOTE:
In Windows Vista, you just have to delete the Links folder from Favourites menu.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

The "Links" option is not visible in the "Favorites" menu and in the toolbar.

The "Links" option is by default visible.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Second, go to the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\] key, right-click on the "LinksFolderName" String value and click on "Modify".

Third, delete the value in the text box and click on 'OK'.

Finally, go to "Internet Explorer > Favorites > Links" and click on "Delete". The "Links" folder must be manually deleted from the favorites menu. This stops it being automatically recreated.
