Launch Internet Explorer windows as separate processes.

This setting specifies whether a new process is created for each instance of Internet Explorer that you start. This can prevent one instance of Explorer from affecting other instances if it stops responding.

Tweak for : Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows 2000

Description:

The "Launch browser windows in a separate process" option was available on the Advanced tab in versions of Internet Explorer earlier than version 5.01. After that, this option isn't available any more in Internet Explorer 5.01 or 5.5. By using this tweak you can setup this option even in later versions.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. If the subkey “\BrowseNewProcess” does not exist, create it as explained below. Then, create a string value “BrowseNewProcess” in the right panel.

Now, right-click and modify its value to “yes” for launching browser windows in a separate process, or “no” for not launching separate process.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

A new process is not created for each and every instance of Internet Explorer after the changes.

A new process is created for every instance of Internet Explorer.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Second, go to the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\] key, right-click and click on "New > Key" to create a new key with the name "BrowseNewProcess".

Third, right-click on the blank area in the right pane and click on "New > String Value" to create a new String value with the name "BrowseNewProcess".

Fourth, right-click on the 'BrowseNewProcess' String value and click on "Modify".

Finally, enter the value "yes" in the text box and click on 'OK'.
