Prevent changes to Web site security certificates configured in Internet Explorer.

This setting can disable the “Certificates” feature in Content tab of Internet Options dialog box, which withdraws the facility to make changes in the security certificate configuration.

You can use certificates to protect your personally identifiable information on the Internet and to protect your computer from unsafe software. A certificate is a statement verifying the identity of a person or the security of a Web site. To access the feature choose “Content” tab in Internet Options dialog box in Internet Explorer.

By using this setting you can disable the “Certificates’ option, which withdraws the facility to make changes in the Web site security certificate configuration.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. If any of the sub keys “Internet Explorer\Control Panel” is not present, create it as explained below. Then, create a DWORD value “CertifSite”, if this value does not exist.

Now, right-click and modify the value to “1” which can disable “Certificates” option. However, if you want to enable the option back, change the value data to “0” or delete the value.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

Disable Certificates in IE.reg

The '.reg' file can prevent changing security certificate option in "Content" tab.

Enable Certificates in IE (Default).reg

The '.reg' file can enable changing personal certificate option in "Content" tab.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

"Certificates" option under the 'Content' tab is disabled.

"Certificates" option under the 'Content' tab is enabled by default.

First, click the Start button, and select Run. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Second, go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\] and create a new key "Internet Explorer".

Third, create a subkey "Control Panel" under "Internet Explorer".

Fourth, create a DWORD value " CertifSites".

Now, right-click on "CertifSites" and select 'Modify'.

Finally, set the 'Value Data' to “1” in the textbox provided and click on 'OK'.

Prevent changes to publisher’s security certificates configured in Internet Explorer.
