Prevent changes to default Web browser settings

This tweak restricts you to make changes to the default browser settings in Internet Explorer.

Tweak for : Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows 2000, Windows Vista

Description:

Internet Explorer gives the option to set it as your default Web browser. However, you can prevent user action to check/uncheck the box to set it or remove it from being your default browser.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below after creating the subkey, “Control Panel”, if it does not exist. Now, create a DWORD value name “Check_If_Default” in the right panel. Right-click on it and modify the data value with “1” to prevent changes and “0” to enable it.

Click “OK” and close the registry editor.

Restart Internet Explorer for the changes to take effect.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

Option to change the default Web browser setting is disabled.

Option to change the default Web browser setting is enabled, by default.

First, click the Start button, and select Run. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit"

Second, go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\] and create a new key "Internet Explorer"

Third, create a subkey "Control Panel" under "Internet Explorer".

Fourth, create a DWORD value "Check_If_default".

Now,right-click on "Check_If_default" and select 'Modify'

Finally, set the value data to “1” in the textbox provided and click on 'OK'.
