Tweak for : Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows 2000, Windows Vista
Some features and behaviors of Internet Explorer can be controlled by the user. One of them is to disable the “Close” option. This setting makes the Internet Explorer window “Close” button to stop functioning. It also ceases the functionality of “Close” option in the “File” menu. This setting is useful in a kiosk, library or public outlets where you do not want users to close Internet Explorer.

Important:
Even if you enable the “Close” function, all the open Internet Explorer windows will close only after a logoff or system restart.

For this, go to Start > Run, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry keys listed below. You can create a DWORD value “NoBrowserClose” at HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE registry paths, if this value does not exist.

Now, right-click to modify the value as “1” and disable the “Close” option in Internet Explorer. However, if you want to get back to the original state, change the value to “0”.

The changes will take effect when you restart Internet Explorer.

NOTE:
This feature works on Internet Explorer version 5 and above.
