Turn off “Open” dialog in Internet Explorer.

You can turn off the launch of “Open” dialog in Internet Explorer.

Tweak for : Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows 2000, Windows Vista

Description:

You can control the feature to open a saved “.htm/.html” file in Internet Explorer. The “Open” dialog is called every time a file is opened. This setting will restrict the launch of this dialog.

Important:
Even if you enable the feature to open files in Internet Explorer, all the open Internet Explorer windows will not show this effect.

For this, go to Start > Run, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. You can create a DWORD value “NoFileOpen” at HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE registry paths, if this value does not exist.

Now, right-click and modify the value to “1” which restricts the launch of “Open” dialog in Internet Explorer. However, if you want to get back to the original state, change the value to “0”.

Restart Internet Explorer for the changes to take effect.

This feature works on Internet Explorer version 5 and above.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

The user is not allowed to open a file in Internet Explorer using "File > Open" option.

The user can comfortably open files using "Open" dialog in Internet Explorer.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\] key and create a new key with the name "Internet Explorer" under "Microsoft".

Then, create a "Restrictions" key under "Internet Explorer".

Now, right-click in the open area to create a DWORD Value with the name "NoFileOpen" in "Restrictions" key.

The created DWORD value will look like below.

Next, right-click on "NoFileOpen" and click on 'Modify'.

Finally, enter the value "1" in the text box and click on 'OK'. Once you are done, follow the above steps to create similar registry keys and DWORD value at [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\].
