Clear the MRU list of Microsoft Office Excel of MS Office XP

This setting lets you clear the MRU list of Microsoft Office Excel of MS Office XP.

Description:

MS Office programs save the filename in most recently used list, when a file is opened or saved. This program performs several actions as you can see here. In a document, in addition to text, a graphic file can also be inserted. The filename of the document opened will be retained for the actions like Open and Save As.

Therefore, all the registry entries must be there to perform all the actions. The clearance of MRU list just removes the link from the registry, it does not delete the file.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below - “\10.0\Common\OpenFind\MicrosoftOffice Excel\Settings\Save As\File Name MRU”. Now, right-click the multi string value name “Value” and delete it.

Click “OK” and close the registry editor.

Logoff or restart your system.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

The recent file list in the "File" is removed after the changes have been made in the registry.

The recent file list is visible in the "File" menu.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Second, go to the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Common\Open Find\Microsoft Office Excel\Settings\Save As\File Name MRU\] key, right-click on the "Value" Multi String value and click on "Delete".
