Hide the System Folder “MyDocuments” in the Places Bar

Places Bar is placed at the left side of Microsoft Office “Open/Save dialog” to allow the user fast access to History, Desktop, My Documents etc. This setting enables you to hide the system folder “MyDocuments”.

Places Bar is placed at the left side of Microsoft Office “Open/Save dialog” to allow the user fast access to History, Desktop, My Documents etc. This setting enables you to hide the system folder “MyDocuments”.

By default, the system folder “MyDocuments” is shown in the “Places Bar”.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. You can create a DWORD value “Show”, if this value does not exist.

Now, right-click and modify the value to “0” which can hide the system folder “MyDocuments” in the “Places Bar”. However, if you want to get back to the original state, change the value to “1”.

The ".reg" file can hide the system folder My Documents in the Places Bar.

Show the sytem folder MyDocuments in the Places Bar (Default).reg

The ".reg" file can show the system folder My Documents in the Places Bar.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

‘My Documents’ is removed from the places bar.

‘My Documents’ is visible by default in places bar.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Common\Open Find\Places\StandardPlaces\MyDocuments\],right-click in the open area to create a DWORD Value with the name "Show" in "MyDocuments" key.

Next, right-click on "Show" and click on 'Modify'.

Finally, enter the value "0" (Base Hexadecimal) without quotation in the text box and click on 'OK'. Once you are done. After a restart or logoff, the changes take effect.
