Set Four Digit Year in Microsoft Excel 2000

In Microsoft Excel there are several default formats for the date and the most frequently is the system short date (YY). If you type a date with a 4-digit year (YYYY) in Excel, it will be showed as 2-digit year (YY). This setting enables you to alter the default to 4-digit format.

In Microsoft Excel there are several default formats for the date and the most frequently is the system short date (YY). If you type a date with a 4-digit year (YYYY) in Excel, it will be showed as 2-digit year (YY). This setting enables you to alter the default to 4-digit format.


For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. You can create a DWORD value “EnableFourDigitYearDisplay”, if this value does not exist.

Now, right-click and modify the value to “1” which can set the default as 4-digit format. However, if you want to get back to the original state, change the value to “0”.

Four Digit Year in Microsoft Excel 2000 is disabled by default.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0 \Excel\Options\],right-click in the open area to create a DWORD Value with the name "EnableFourDigitYearDisplay" in "Options" key.

Next, right-click on "EnableFourDigitYearDisplay" and click on 'Modify'.

Finally, enter the value "1" (Base Hexadecimal) Without quotation in the text box and click on 'OK'. Once you are done. After a restart or logoff, the changes take effect.

Set the number of undo-operations for Microsoft Excel 2000
