Specify the View of the Contents in User Defined Folders in Places Bar

Places Bar is placed at the left side of Microsoft Office “Open/Save dialog” to allow the user fast access to History, Desktop, My Documents etc. This setting enables you to specify the view of the content of user defined folders for the “Places Bar” in MS Office XP, depending on whether you want to look in Thumbnails view, List view, Details view, or Summary view.

Places Bar is placed at the left side of Microsoft Office “Open/Save dialog” to allow the user fast access to History, Desktop, My Documents etc. This setting enables you to specify the view of the content of user defined folders for the “Places Bar” in MS Office XP, depending on whether you want to look in Thumbnails view, List view, Details view, or Summary view.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. You can create a Dword value “View” in the right panel, if this value does not exist. Now, right-click and modify its value to one of the view_codes among the list.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

The files and folders are displayed in a Detail view for user defined "Program Files" folder.

The files and folders are displayed in a List view for user defined "Program Files" folder.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Second, go to the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Common\Open Find\Places\UserDefinedPlaces\PlaceN] key, right-click on the blank area in the right pane and click on "New > DWORD Value" to create a new DWORD value with the name "View".

Third, right-click on the 'View' DWORD value and click on "Modify".

Finally, enter the view_code value in the text box and click on 'OK'.
