Block executable attachments files in Outlook Express.

This setting enables you to block attachments having EXE files in Outlook Express.

Tweak for : Windows XP
This setting enables you to block executable attachments files in Outlook Express. This restriction can be applied to protect your system from potential viruses. However, other types of files are allowed to be seen and saved.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. You can create a DWORD value “BlockExeAttachments”, if this value does not exist.

Now, right-click and modify the value data to “1” which can restrict “.exe” attachment. However, if you want to show the icons back, change the value to “0” or delete the value.

Restart Outlook Express for the changes to take effect.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

‘.exe’ attachment files are blocked in Outlook Express.

‘.exe’ attachment files is allowed to be seen and saved by default.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Second, go to the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express\] key, right-click on the blank area in the right pane and click on "New > DWORD Value" to create a new DWORD value with the name "BlockExeAttachments".

Third, right-click on the 'BlockExeAttachments' DWORD value and click on "Modify".

Finally, enter the value "1" in the text box and click on 'OK'.
