Set attachment temporary folder for Outlook 2003

This setting allows you to change the temporary directory used for storing attachments for Outlook 2003.

Description:

On opening an attachment in Outlook, the temporary attachment file is created in a temporary folder, this may present a possible security problem. By default, Outlook stores these files in a sub-folder of temporary internet files but you can select a different folder here.

A lot of Outlook items, especially emails, have documents attached. If you double-click an attachment, Outlook saves the files to your hard disk and it starts the associated application for the file (e.g. Excel for *.XLS files).

You can clear this entry from the registry and Outlook will use a different folder below temporary internet files each time, Outlook is started.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. If the subkey “\11.0\Outlook\Security” is not present, create it as explained below. Then, create a string value name “OutlookSecureTempFolder”, if this value does not exist. Now, right-click and modify the value data box to give the full path of the attachment temporary folder.

Click “OK” and close the registry editor.

Note that the path information for the OutlookSecureTempFolder value should be entered with a trailing backslash. For example:

c:\newfolder\
