Open “.WSF” files with Notepad.

This setting enables you to open a file with extension “.WSF” in Notepad and have a look at it before getting it executed.

Description:

Script files may contain malicious script commands that attempt to perform unwanted actions on your computer. Though it’s a powerful mechanism to automate certain tasks, it’s also a common source of security threat. The better option is to take a look at the script files before executing them.

To avoid security violations, you can make the script files to open with Notepad on a double click instead of executing the script.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. Now, right-click and modify the “Default” String value to “Edit” which can open “.WSF” files with Notepad. However, if you want to revert to the original setting, delete the added value.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

".WSF" files are enabled to open with 'Notepad' on double click.

".WSF" files can execute the script commands on double click, by default.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Go to [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WSFFile\Shell\], in the open right-click on "(Default)" and click on 'Modify'.

Finally, enter the value "Edit" in the text box and click on 'OK'.
