Prevent regedit.exe from using the last state

This setting lets you disable the last status of regedit.exe.

Tweak for : Windows XP

Description:

Regedit.exe displays the last key accessed, when it ran last time. Windows XP Me and 2000 has this facility. Some changes in the registry can disable the display.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. If the subkey “\CurrentVersion\Applets\Regedit” is not present, create it as explained below. Then, create string value name “LastKey”, if this value does not exist. Now, right-click and clear the value data. Click the Regedit key and then click Permissions on the Edit menu. Remove Full Control access for any user, who does not want Regedit to display the last key, the user accessed in the previous session and then click OK.

Note: If permissions cannot be removed, they have to be denied.

The "Last Status" of Regedit is disabled after the changes have been made in the registry.

The "Last Status" of Regedit is enabled.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Second, go to the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Applets\Regedit\] key, right-click on the "LastKey" String value and click on "Modify".

Finally, delete the value from the text box and click on 'OK'.
