Clear MMC recent files

This setting lets you clear the recent files list used in Microsoft Management Console (MMC).

Microsoft Management Console tries to simplify system management tasks of daily routine. It has applications, which have been built with modules. These applications, called snap-ins, can be added to a program that work independently or like a part of the bigger application. The Active Directory Users and Computers administer users, groups and computers etc. are some of the parts of MMC. It enables system administrators an adaptable interface to view the system and set it up.

Through this setting you can clear the recent files list used in Microsoft Management Console (MMC).

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. If the subkey “\Microsoft Management Console\Recent File List\” is not present, create it as explained below. Now, delete all the string value names entries like file1, file2, file3, … except default.

Click OK to close the registry.

Logoff or restart your system.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type 'regedit'.

Next, go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Management Console\] and right click on the key 'Recent File List'. Finally delete the key 'Recent File List' to clear the MMC recently used list.

Hide “Indexing Service” snap-in from Computer Management console file.
