Restrict loading of “Routing and Remote Access” console file.

This setting can disable loading of the console file “Routing and Remote Access” from Administrative Tools section.

Tweak for : Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows 2000
The “Routing and Remote Access” provides secure remote access to private networks. It can be accessed from Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools. But, with this setting you can restrict loading of this console file from Administrative Tools section.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. If any of the subkeys “\MMC\{1AA7F839-C7F5-11D0-A376-00C04FC9DA04}” does not exist, create them as explained below. Then, create a string value “Restrict_Run” in the right panel.

Now, right-click and modify its value to “1” which can disable console file. However, if you want to enable back the snap-in, delete the subkey “{1AA7F839-C7F5-11D0-A376-00C04FC9DA04}”.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

Disallow routing and remote access for MMC snap-ins.reg

The '.reg' file can restrict loading of “Routing and Remote Access” console file.

Allow routing and remote access for MMC snap-ins.reg

The '.reg' file can allow loading of “Routing and Remote Access” console file.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

The console file "Routing and Remote Access" is disabled from loading.

"Routing and Remote Access" console file is enabled by default.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\], key and create a new key with the name "MMC" under "Microsoft".

Then, create a "{1AA7F839-C7F5-11D0-A376-00C04FC9DA04}" key under "MMC".

Now, right-click in the open area to create a String Value with the name "Restrict_Run" in "{1AA7F839-C7F5-11D0-A376-00C04FC9DA04}" key.

Next, right-click on "Restrict_Run" and click on 'Modify'.

Finally set the value data as '1' and click 'OK'.

Hide “Local Users and Groups” snap-in from Computer Management console file.

Restrict loading of “QoS Admission Control” snap-in into MMC.

MMC can load various snap-ins that are used to simplify system management tasks of daily routine. This setting can disable loading of the snap-in “QoS Admission Control” into MMC.

Disable Command Extensions (For Current User).
